The Public Garden "Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt" and the Metropolitan Church square lack WCs. The public toilets that existed once upon a time are closed, the spaces being assigned to economic agents.

Contacted by IPN, Grigore Roic, senior deputy director of the municipal waste management company "Autosalubritate", told that the WC on Bănulescu Bodoni street, near the flower market, is managed by an economic agent that pays a lease fee. The "Stefan cel Mare" park toilet was rented out until the end of the year. However, the contract was terminated because the economic operator doesn’t find it to be a lucrative business anymore.

Grigore Roic says that there are property rights issues over the lands on which the toilets are built, since they do not belong to the municipality. The "Autosalubritate" representative said that there are 16 public toilets in the city, yet only 11 are operational. Asked about the bio-toilets, as an alternative, Grigore Roic said that the municipality does not own them. In the case of mass public events, the city borrows them from a private company.

In April, the General Housing and Planning Directorate announced the construction of eight new sites in five parks in the capital, which will cost an estimated five million lei. The two central parks are not part of this project.

"The two toilets are for rent and the lease is not yet finalized," said Vasile Efros, head of the GHCDD Planning and Sanitation department. He added that measures will be taken to include these toilets on the list of sites that will be repaired next year.

Out of the eight toilets that were announced in the spring, one is completed and will soon be operational at Alunelul Park. "Currently, works on "La Izvor" park water closets are underway", said Vasile Efros. Under the contract, the eight public toilets must be ready by the end of October.
