The Central Market is in need of traders as there are about 200-300 free places each day, the director of the market Ion Stratulat said at the Chisinau City Hall’s meeting on Monday, July 2. According to him, this is due to the hot weather.
Stratulat said that such a situation is totally different from the one experienced in the same period last year, when the market was overcrowded with traders. For this reason, the producers from the suburbs of the Chisinau municipality have been invited “to cooperate” with the administration of the market with a view to filling the free places. A similar appeal was made by the bird breeders, who do not know yet that there was open a bird market onCarbunarilor Street, 9 in Chisinau. The new market cost about 7.6 million lei, money allocated by the Central Market from its profits. According to the Veterinary Medicine Service, the market meets the international veterinary norms and can ensure the food security of the Chisinau residents.
In this connection, the mayor general of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca stressed the necessity of enabling access to the Chisinau markets for the producers so as to prevent the ‘street trade’. Though ascertaining that the vendors sell on the street because they do not want to pay taxes, the new mayor said that the lack of places is also a reason. He instructed the market administrators to periodically announce the population about the vacant places, stressing the importance of making the traders to sell in the markets, especially by creating adequate conditions for trade.
At the same time, the mayor asked the policemen to behave in a civilized way towards the producers, even if they sell their merchandise on the pavement.
