The secretary of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) Iurie Ciocan runs the risk of being dismissed from his current position. This issue will be discussed during one of the forthcoming meetings of the CEC. The proposal to put the professional competence of the CEC secretary to the vote was made by the CEC member Nicolae Garbu at the meeting of August 21, during a dispute following Iurie Ciocan’s request to exclude the independent candidate Mihai Ganea running for the post of mayor of Chirca village, Anenii Noi district, from the electoral lists. Nicolae Garbu suggested that Iurie Ciocan is playing the game of the government and similar to the situation in Buteni village, Hancesti district, he is attempting to influence members of the CEC to take a decision detrimental to the electorate and contradictory to the existing law norms. Nicolae Garbu accused Ciocan of suggesting to exclude the Buteni candidate, who is a representative of the AMN Party, from the electoral race to the CEC members, threatening with legal action. Another CEC member Vasile Gafton accused the secretary of manifesting a familiar, arrogant, unprofessional attitude towards other members of the Commission. Iurie Ciocan denied all the accusation, saying he only complies with the law as well as with the Electoral Code. Eugeniu Stirbu, chairman of the Commission, was absent from the meeting that took place on August 21.
