The Central Election Commission warned the local administration of Telenesti town over the illegal use of public money for electoral propaganda. The intimation was filed by the Social Liberal Party (PSL), which claimed that on May 13, during one of the meetings in the district, which was attended by the Head of Parliament Marian Lupu, the candidate of the Communist Party of Moldova (PCRM) was being supported through propaganda. Representatives of the two parties gave different accounts of the parliamentary speaker’s travel to Telenesti. The PSL said that the meeting aimed at creating a favorable image to the PCRM candidate, while representatives of the ruling party said that Marian Lupu, as Head of the Parliament, is obliged by law to meet his voters. The Communist candidate was present at the meeting because it was a public meeting. After hearing the representatives of the two parties, the CEC accepted the PSL’s intimation. The Commission accepted as proofs the photos of the PCRM candidate in the presidium of the meeting, near Marian Lupu, and an invoice showing that the rental for the meeting hall was paid by the Telenesti District Council. The CEC will ask the Audit Office to calculate the total sum used to hold the meeting and to check the source from which the expenses were covered.
