Central bank to issue 11 commemorative coins

The National Bank of Moldova this year will issue 11 jubilee and commemorative coins, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a Government decision.
The series “Personalities” will be supplemented with two commemorative coins - 555 years of the enthronement of Stephen the Great and Holy, and Andrei Lupan, 100 years of birth.
A cooperative coin dedicated to the classical writer of the Romanian literature Ion Creanga will form part of the recently inaugurated series “Alley of Classical Writers”.
The coins of the series “Moldova’s Holidays, Culture and Traditions” will mark 160 years of the publication of the ballad “Miorita” and the people’s feast Saint John.
The series “Churches” and “Moldova’s Monasteries” will include two new commemorative coins that represent the oldest church of Moldova “Mazarache”, which is based in Chisinau, and the stone monastery “Butuceni”.
A coin with the image of Soroca Fortress that was erected by Stephan the Great and Holy in the 15th century will supplement the series “Moldova’s Monuments”.
The series “Moldova’s Red Book” will include two new coins – “Otter” and “Lady Shoe”.
The series “Sport” will be issued on the occasion of the London Olympics that will take place on July 27 – August 12, 2012.
The coins will be used for numismatic purpose and as a means of payment.
