The National Bank of Moldova and the Ministry of Finance did not examine the possibility of instituting a special tax on the banking sector, said the central bank's governor Dorin Dragutanu, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
“Certainly, at international level such discussions take place. But we do not have to draw a parallel with Moldova. In the U.S., such a tax may be imposed on investment banks first of all. This tax will temper the wish to increase the lending volume and will prevent risks,” Dorin Dragutanu told a news conference on May 11.
The situation in Moldova is different, said the governor. “I think that in 2012, when the tax on company revenues is restored, such a tax should be paid by banks as well as they are also economic entities that make money,” Dorin Dragutanu said.
