The Moldovan central authorities must be closer to the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia so as to bring to an end the separatist trends existing in the region. Such statements were made in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
Historian Ruslan Shevchenko said the problems in Gagauzia appeared because some of the representatives of the local authorities asked for powers, while Chisinau didn’t react appropriately. “The representatives of Comrat asked for more powers. Actions were taken to divide the legislation and formulate the own legislation, apart from the national legislation, and to form the own state bodies, without the consent of Chisinau. Now the situation seems to have improved because the current administration places emphasis more on the socioeconomic problems and Chisinau should take this into account,” he stated.
Victor Grebenshchikov, ex-presidential adviser on matters related to ethnic minorities, considers the solving of the problems in Gagauzia depends on the ensuring of welfare and of the presence of the central authorities in the region. “The presence in the region should be greater. The Romanian language and the EU projects should be promoted there,” he said.
Law expert Vitalie Gamurari also believes that the central authorities should increase their presence in Gagauzia. “The meetings of the working group for Gagauzia should take place both in Chisinau and in Comrat. The problems can be solved by implementing the Association Agreement with the EU,” he stated.
