Hundreds of policemen were mobilized to maintain public order in the center of Chisinau on January 13 in connection with two protests – one set to take place in the Great National Assembly, organized by the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” and the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”, and another one planned in the square of the National Opera House, staged by supporters of the Democratic Party.

Contacted by IPN, head of the General Police Inspectorate Gheorghe Cavcaliuc said a sufficient number of police officers were mobilized for ensuring the events are held in a proper way. If necessary, the number of policemen will be increased. Asked if the police possess information about possible provocations, Gheorghe Cavcaliuc refused to answer, saying such details are not discussed publicly.

According to the organizers, the protest in the central square of Chisinau is mounted with the aim of supporting the pro-European President of Moldova so that this nominates an upright person for premiership. The organizers of the other protest said the aim of the event is to support the nomination of a candidate for Prime Minister on behalf of the Democratic Party.

In connection with the planned protests, the National Patrolling Inspectorate will restrict traffic in central Chisinau. The vehicles will be diverted onto adjoining streets. The motorists are urged to be maximally cautious in the mentioned areas and to strictly obey the instructions of patrolling inspectors and the road signs.
