Center for Independent Life to open in Vadul lui Voda

A Center for an Independent Life will be opened on Thursday, 11 May, in Vadul lui Voda town. The organizer of this project is the Association „Motivation” from Moldova.
According to association’s representatives, the project’s goal is to promote an independent life style among wheel chairs users of rural regions of Moldova by providing quality services according to their special needs.
Coordinator Ana Sajin noted that at the beginning the project planned for involving disabled persons in rehabilitation programs within the Community Center for Children and Youth of Chisinau. At the end, it was gotten to the idea of creating a center providing services and rehabilitation programs, and social adaptation for these persons.
Project’s beneficiaries will be children and youngsters using who use such chairs. They will follow development therapies and self-service habits improvement, adaptation to new conditions, agro- and art-therapy. The center will also include their families, specialists and organizations of this field, especially in rural areas.
The project stipulates as well providing psychological assistance (individual and group therapy, counseling, development of certain creativity and communication abilities) and technical assistance (evaluation, prescription and assembling of these chairs, consultations on home accessibility). The beneficiaries will practice active recovery activities: wheel chair management techniques, transfer methods, dancing in such chairs, curative gymnastic, as well as preventing and prophylaxis actions of certain health problems. The project will also train specialists in this field, organize summer schools and seminars.
The project is implemented in partnership with Foundation Motivation Romania, with financial support of Foundation JANIVO Holland, Embassy of Holland in Kiev and USAID within the projects Network for Mobility and Wheelchair User Support Program.
Association „Motivatie” of Moldova is a non-governmental, independent, apolitical organization, created in October 2000 and works within the Community Center for Children and Youth.
