The Government headed by Iurie Leanca didn’t fall following the third censure motion submitted by the Communist over the last six weeks. It didn’t garner the 51 votes of MP needed to be passed. Only the Communist MPs and three Socialists voted for it, IPN reports.

The Communists argued that the negotiations on the Association Agreement with the EU were held in secret. Iurie Leanca said the chief negotiators on behalf of Moldova – Foreign Minister Natalia Gherman and Deputy Minister of Economy Octavian Calmic – often attended the parliamentary hearings centering on the negotiations and the Communist MPs, together with all the other lawmakers, were informed about this process.

The Communists insisted that the accord’s provisions impinge on Moldovans’ interests as Moldova pledged to take part in the military conflicts in which the EU is involved and to offer the personal data of people when they are requested by the EU. Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim intervened, saying the EU member states have the highest personal data protection standards.

Earlier, the Communists put forward another two censure motions against the Government. In the first case, the Communists MPs accused the executive of trying to dispossess the state of Banca de Economii and the Chisinau International Airport. The second motion concerned the Transnistrian conflict and the setting up of migration points between the two banks of the Nistru. Both of the motions didn’t obtain the necessary number of votes.
