The Government of Ukraine wasn’t dismissed. The censure motion put forward by the opposition was voted by 86 lawmakers at a time when at least 226 votes are needed for it to be adopted. The announcement was published by the national Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform on its website, quoted by IPN.
Ukrainian Premier Nicolai Azarov told the MPs of the Supreme Rada that he regrets the use of violence during the protests in support of the European course of Ukraine and assured that those who are to blame will be penalized. A governmental delegation of Ukraine will next week travel to Brussels to resume the negotiations on the creation of the Free Trade Area with the EU.
On November 21, Ukraine decided to suspend the procedures for signing the Association Agreement with the EU, arguing that the accord will affect the country’s economy. In reaction, thousands of supporters of the European integration, encouraged by the Ukrainian opposition, took to the streets. On the night of November 30, the crowd was violently dispersed by the police. As a result, besides signing the Association Agreement with the EU, the protesters demanded dismissing the Government and the President and calling early parliamentary and presidential elections.
