More than 200 students didn’t get to school and a number of localities remained without electricity due to the meteorological conditions. In the central districts of Moldova, the layer of snow measures 19 centimeters. The information was communicated at noon in the meeting of the cell crisis that was convoked by Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Kiril Gaburici. A part of road sections were closed to heavy vehicles, IPN reports.

Mihail Harabagiu, head of the General Inspectorate for Emergencies, said the movement of large trucks was blocked near Troița Nouă village of Anenii Noi district. The small cars and crossovers can travel. The access of heavy vehicles was also blocked on the norther part of the Chisinau ˗ Leușeni road. There are no fully blocked local, national or international roads.

On January 11, 224 students from Nisporeni, Călărași and Hâncești districts could not be transported to school, mainly owing to the inappropriate technical condition of the vehicles. Six localities of Criuleni, Cahul and Cimișlia districts were disconnected from the power supply, but the figure varies continuously.

Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate, said the number of police officers on the national and local roads was trebled in connection with the weather conditions. The police teams help persons who experience difficulties, especially in villages. A more serious road accident happened in Strășeni district, where a speeding car skidded off the road. The driver and the passenger were taken to the hospital.

The head of the weather forecasts center of the State Hydrometeorological Service Gennady Roșca said the layer of snow varies between 3 and 19 centimeters. It will continue to snow this night and there will be sleet in southern Moldova. The precipitation the next few days will be smaller in quantity. The temperatures the coming night will oscillate between -9 and -14 degrees Celsius. It will be colder in the northern districts, but it will grow warmer the next days. The wind in southern and central Moldova is expected to intensify to 15-20 m/s and snowdrifts and ice will form in parts.

The authorities call on the drivers to be responsible and cautious before setting off and to inform themselves about the weather conditions and the situation on the roads. In emergencies, one can call 112.
