CE/EU present intermediary results of projects implemented in Moldova

Hundreds of training seminars for people working in justice, the electoral field and human rights protection, strengthening of the legal framework and its adjustment to the European standards are among the intermediary results of the projects implemented by the Council of Europe in Moldova, with financing from the European Union, within the Programmatic Cooperation Framework (PCF) 2015-2017 for the Eastern Partnership countries, IPN reports.

The results were presented in Chisinau on October 18. Jose-Luis Herrero, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, said that besides assessment of project implementation, they want to set priorities for the last year of implementation. The Programmatic Cooperation Framework covers the Eastern Partnership countries that can develop both region and national projects.

The four national projects implemented in Moldova are: Supporting national efforts for prevention and combating of discrimination (€457,000); Strengthening the efficiency of justice (€1.4 million); strengthening the respect for human rights in the implementation of Moldova’s Digital Agenda (€400 de mii de euro); Electoral Assistance: Reforming Electoral Practice (€195,000).

Aneil Singh, Head of the Operations Section of the EU Delegation to Moldova, said the implemented projects are funded 90% by the EU. Depending on the interest of beneficiaries, it is examined the possibility of providing substantial financial assistance for financing the projects until 2020.

Sergey Mihov, national coordinator for the Programmatic Cooperation Framework, stated that the framework represents a very good regional cooperation platform. The implemented projects already produce palpable results. Sergey Mihov underlined the importance of training for judges and prosecutors, the legal expertise and assistance in working our legislation, etc.

Arkadi Sytine, division head and coordinator within the PCF, said that besides the four national projects, the Republic of Moldova takes part in 14 regional projects and benefits from about €2 million in assistance. About 600 regional activities were carried out this year alone, over of 50 these exclusively for Moldova. The activities involved more than 1,100 participants from Moldova.
