European Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmström Friday spoke to the Moldovan students about the principles of the European Union and the mechanisms applied by the European institutions to support the countries that aspire to become members of the EU, including Moldova, IPN reports.
The official said the European integration offers Moldova possibilities of development in different areas, including corruption fighting and promotion of reforms, and more opportunities for young people, who represent the country’s future. Cecilia Malmström expressed her confidence that Moldova’s future is in the EU and encouraged the young people to promote the fundamental values of the EU - democracy, freedom and respect for the human rights.
In the same event, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said the liberalization of the visa regime with the EU and the pending signing of the Association Agreement do not represent the end of process. “The final objective is for Moldova to become a member of the EU because this means functional democracy and responsible institutions,” he stated.
