People who do not respect vote secrecy, including those who publish the marked ballot, face heavy fines. Those who campaign on election day can also be penalized, the Central Election Commission has warned, IPN reports.

CEC chairwoman Angelica Caraman in a press briefing said that any breach of vote secrecy is punishable in accordance with the law. "It is forbidden to photograph, to place on social media the marked ballot, to take it out of the polling station or to damage it, to steal the voting stamp and to campaign in any form – all these things are prohibited on this day," said the head of the Commission.

Under the law, voters who photograph, show or publish the marked ballot paper face a contravention sanction in the form of a warning or even a fine of 600 to 1,500 lei. Also, for the unauthorized taking of the ballot paper out of the polling station or the transmission by the voter of the ballot to a third person, the voter risks a fine of 2,500 to 7,500 lei.

The Contravention Code also stipulates penalties for the continuation of political campaigning on election day, by election competitors, citizens or the media. In the case of individuals, such actions are penalized with fines of 2,000 to 3,000 lei, while in the case of legal entities – of 5,000 to 7,500 lei.
