CEC validates seats of three Liberal councilors

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has validated the seats of the three substitute candidates of the Liberal Party for members of the Chisinau Municipal Council. These are Igor Calin, Vasile Hincu and Victor Sula. The decision was passed by six votes of the eight CEC members attending, Info-Prim Neo reports. The decision was taken two days after the Chisinau Court of Appeals ordered invalidating the seats of Dorin Chirtoaca, Veronica Herta and Mihail Cirlig before term in connection with the incompatibility of the posts held with the seat of councilor. “The Court also ruled that the seats of the substitute candidates should be validated immediately. We convened a meeting in 24 hours so as to allow those who do not agree with the Court’s decision to pronounce. There were cases when the court decisions were challenged at 8pm,” said CEC chairman Iurie Ciocan. Two members of the CEC, Eduard Raducan and Vadim Motsarski, voted against as the Court of Appeals did not issue a decision implementation order, as the Civil Code requires. Iurie Ciocan said that he will submit to Parliament a bill that empowers the CEC to invalidate the seats of councilor before term, based on the reasons defined by the legislation.
