A task force formed of IT experts is examining what went wrong with the electronic voter roll during the November 30 election. Central Election Commission (CEC) chairman Iurie Ciocan says one version under examination is an external interference that caused an overload, IPN reports.

Presenting the CEC's election report before the Constitutional Court today, Iurie Ciocan said the system worked perfectly during the first hour of voting, after which it started malfunctioning. By 2:00pm the system was working at its full capacity, with all the servers employed, but it couldn't deal with the load. Ciocan said an external interference might be behind this.

The electoral authorities came under fire after the electronic voter roll failed, with the Communist Party going as far as to demand that the November 30 election be declared invalid. Because of the malfunction, operators in electoral bureaus gathered the information manually and tabulated it later in digital form. This, according to the Communists, allowed for violations such as multiple voting.
