The Central Electoral Commission has received a host of complaints of electoral violations, including of irregular campaigning, and organized transportation to polling stations of voters from the Transnistrian region. CEC chairperson Alina Russu told a press briefing that organized transportation is not illegal in itself, but the allegations will be examined to see if these cases were also tainted by vote buying.

Alina Russu said that by about 6:30 pm over 1,320,000 votes were cast, which amounted to 46% of the total number of eligible voters. 53% of voters were women and 47% are men. The most active voters were in the age group 56-70 (37%), and the most passive were young people up to 25 years (8%).

At the polling stations opened abroad, over 60,000 voters participated by 6:30 pm. The most attended were the polling stations in London and Dublin. In the two constituencies destined for the citizens residing on the left side of the Nistru the turnout was also relatively solid, with more than 35,000 voters showing up.

Russu rejected allegations of multiple voting as the CEC automated information system hasn’t identified any attempts of this kind.
