The Central Election Commission (CEC) proposes registering beforehand the Moldovans who settled abroad and want to take part in the parliamentary elections of this year. The CEC put forward for public debates the draft regulations providing that the voters can register by accessing the relevant section on the website www.alegator.md, IPN reports.

Under the draft regulations, the registration of voters will start not earlier than six months after the expiration of the mandate of the current legislature. The first registration stage consists in the completion of a form where it is indicated the place of residence abroad, identity data, the domicile in Moldova and contact data. At the second stage, the person files a statement, informing that they want to take part in the next elections and assuming responsibility for the correctness and truthfulness of the indicated data. They also agree to being temporarily struck off the basic electoral rolls at the domicile in Moldova.

The authors of the regulations say the registration in advance is aimed at determining the approximate number of voters from abroad so as to establish additional polling places there, compiling the electoral register of the citizens who will vote at the given polling places and at determining an estimated number of ballots that will be distributed.

The registration in advance will not be mandatory. The voters who, for different reasons, do not register beforehand can vote at the respective polling place on the election day. They will be written in the additional electoral rolls.

When the public debates are closed at the end of April, the draft regulations will be put to the vote in the Central Election Commission.
