The Central Election Commission (CEC) set the upper limit of the amount that can be transferred to the account “Intended for the initiative group” for the support of candidates for the office of President in the October 20 election. According to the decision, a voter will be able to transfer a maximum of 498 610 lei, IPN reports.
CEC deputy chairman Pavel Postica said that the nationwide general cap on financial means that can be transferred to the account “Intended for the initiative group” is 0.1 of the state budget revenues approved for the respective year. The general cap is determined multiplying the coefficient set by the Commission by the maximum number of signatures that need to be collected by the initiative group to support a candidate for an elective office. Respectively, this coefficient is calculated according to the formula – the general cap per country is divided by the total number of voters on the date of adoption of the decision.
The 2024 state budget revenues were projected at over 65.830 billion lei. The general cap in the amount of 0.1 of the state budget revenues is thus 65.8 million lei. At the same time, all candidates for the office of President submit subscription lists containing the signatures of at least 15,000 and at most 25,000 voters from at least half of the territorial administrative units of the second level.
“Respectively, the general ceiling at national level of 65.8 million lei was taken as the reporting basis for determining the coefficient, divided by the total number of voters registered in the State Register of Voters, which on August 7 was 3 300 701 voters. The resulting coefficient is 19.94 lei. Respectively, by multiplying the coefficient of 19.94 by the maximum number of 25,000 signatures necessary to be collected by the initiative group in support of a candidate for the position of President, the general cap on the financial resources that can be transferred to the account “Intended for the initiative group” is determined at 498 610 lei and 29 bani,” stated Pavel Postica.
