CEC says preliminary data confirm Chisinau Mayor’s election

According to preliminary data, the Mayor General of the municipality of Chisinau was elected as a result of the lections held on June 17. The Central Election Commission (CEC) approved the official report on the results of the runoff election on June 21. According to the results, 36.26% of registered voters participated in the second round voting in Chisinau. The candidate of the communists, Veaceslav Iordan, polled 38.83% and Liberal Dorin Chirtoaca – 61.17%. On the whole, 475 mayors and 65 councillors were elected in the settlements where runoff elections were held on June 17. The Centru District Court postponed until Friday the issue on the validation of elections following a petition submitted by the representatives of the ruling party.
