CEC rejects 2 appeals of PCRM

The Central Election Commission (CEC) rejected two appeals submitted by the Communists Party (PCRM), on Friday. The PCRM's representative about the CEC, Sergiu Sarbu earlier asked to modify the electoral labels of the Centrist Union (UCM) and of the Liberal Party, Info-Prim Neo reports. Sarbu has been unhappy that the UCM's symbol has the word “Tarlev” written on it and thus he thinks it sets the other competitors in inequality, since hint is made to a person serving as a prime-minister for 7 years and got enhanced media attention. He also claimed that color version of the sign has the colors of the state tricolor. Referring to the PL's label he said it might be mistaken for the EU's flag. All the CEC members have voted to reject the PCRM's two requests on reason they are groundless and late. Mihai Busuleac, a CEC member reporting on the two issues, has said “the state symbols are the coat of arms, the flag and the anthem and not the colors red, yellow and blue.” He has added that the competitors' symbols will be anyway black and white on the ballots. Referring to the Tarlev word, Busuleac has said that “the law does not forbid to use names on the label,” and there are many Tarlevs in Moldova. As for the PL's symbol, Busuleac has stated it contains 27 stars, while the EU's flag – only 12 .
