Central Election Commission rejected the appeals filed by Ruslan Codreanu and Sergei Scripnic against the Chisinau Municipal Electoral Council (CECEC), by which they were not registered in the electoral race for the position of general mayor of Chisinau municipality. The decisions were taken at the meeting on Monday, September 30, IPN reports.
As for Ruslan Codreanu, an independent candidate, on September 26, CECEC invalidated over 800 signatures of over 10400 submitted by the initiative group in support of Ruslan Codreanu. CEC members did not find legal grounds for recognizing the signature lists invalidated by CECEC. Thus, the CECEC decision was maintained.
As regards Serghei Scripnic, a candidate of Patriots of Moldova Political Party, CECEC found that the party had launched the process of selecting candidates for the position of mayor and municipal councillor prior to the date when the electoral body was constituted, which is against the law. Although the party representatives declared that they did not know about the mandatory norm, the CEC members claim that ignorance of the law is no excuse.
Both claimants can appeal against the CEC judgments in court.
