CEC registers first four presidential endorsement groups

The Central Electoral Commission today registered the first four initiative groups to support presidential candidates. For their respective candidates to be able to run, each registered group must now collect at least 15,000 and at most 25,000 signatures from at least half of the number of administrative units of second level, and produce the lists no later than September 20.

The CEC registered the initiative group formed by the Moldovan Development and Consolidation Party to support former prime minister Ion Chicu for president. It consists of 40 people and will be led by Liliana Iaconi.

The initiative group to support ex-prime minister Vasile Tarlev was also registered. One hundred people are part of the team, with Mihail Vîrcolici being their leader.

The registered group formed by the Socialist Party will support former general prosecutor Alexandr Stoianoglo as an independent candidate. It is made up of one hundred people and will be led by Victor Țvircun.

The fourth registered initiative group is the one constituted by the Electoral Bloc Together to support Octavian Țîcu. 31 people are going to collect signatures for him, with the group being led by Liviu Vovc.

Meanwhile, the former anti-corruption prosecutor Victoria Furtună today sought registration for her group.

Also today, the CEC registered the Communist Party as a campaigner in the constitutional referendum, advocating for the “no” case. Political parties and electoral blocs may apply for registration as referendum campaigners until September 20 inclusive.
