The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) recommends maintaining absentee voting for this year's parliamentary elections, potentially expanding the list of countries where it can be applied, IPN reports.

These recommendations are included in the report on the partial implementation of absentee voting in six countries during the constitutional referendum and the presidential elections on October 20, 2024.

The CEC reiterates the Venice Commission's recommendation to establish absentee voting as a permanent method after the 2025 parliamentary elections to ensure compliance with the principles of stability and legal security.

The implementation of absentee voting will be one of the main topics discussed at post-election analysis events, including the conference scheduled for March 18-19, 2025, with the participation of all stakeholders involved in the election organization process.

For the first time, absentee voting was piloted in six countries during the elections last fall – the USA, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, and Finland. Approximately 1,800 Moldovan voters opted for this voting method.
