The Central Election Commission (CEC) has dealt with over 700 applications for postal voting. The verification procedure initiated on September 6 continues, IPN reports.

Voters’ identity is verified based on the comparison and matching of the facial signs on the identity card photo attached by the voter and with the most recent photo of the voter from the State Population Register.

In the identity verification, the electoral authority can ask the voter to update part or all of the data to make identification possible. The data update can be made no later than 25 days before election day.

The voter is notified of the result of the verification by a message sent to the indicated e-mail address, explaining, as the case may be, the conditions that did not make identification possible.

Postal voting will be piloted in the October 20 presidential election in the United States, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland. To vote by post, 1,996 Moldovan citizens registered on the CEC’s page. The procedure is mandatory.
