The president of the Central Election Commission Dorin Cimil said he didn’t take action and didn’t make statements that would represent a violation of the law and of the taken oath and would serve as a reason for resigning. The CEC chief reacted following the Party of Action and Solidarity’s demand to tender his resignation, IPN reports.
“I managed, within my powers, transparently and correctly, the pre-registration process, presented relevant information and ordered to verify the applications submitted to the CEC. Following the completion of the pre-registration process, I requested the competent authorities to verify the information so as to determine the accuracy of the presented data,” said Dorin Cimil, being quoted in a press release of the CEC.
As to the circular about the funding of the campaign prior to the presidential elections, the CEC president said he didn’t support it and thus didn’t sign it and presented his arguments in a working meeting that involved CEC members.
“Even if I was designated by this apolitical party, I maintain my equidistant position, while my actions do not favor a particular electoral contender. In the decisions I take, I abide strictly by the principles of legality, justice and independence and didn’t allow and will not allow being influenced by any political force,” stated Dorin Cimil.
The PAS demanded that Dorin Cimil should resign as he was proposed as a CEC member by the PAS with the intention of making sure that the CEC becomes apolitical and independent, defends people’s interests and really ensures the organization of free and fair elections. “Regrettably, we witnessed actions and statements by Dorin Cimil that cast doubt on his independence and objectivity. For example, he didn’t take measures to annul the false pre-registration applications, supported the proposal to unjustifiably establish polluting stations in Russia based on falsified documents, accepted the biased CEC decision to exclude parties from the presidential electoral process, but this is an illegal decision that favors Igor Dodon,” said the party.
