The district electoral councils are to transmit the vote reports within 48 hours of the closure of polling stations. Later, the Central Election Commission will present the final election outcome. If none of the candidates gains at least half of the ballot, a runoff vote will be held on November 15, IPN reports.
In a news conference, CEC president Dorin Cimil said the last polling stations established in the U.S were closed at 7am this morning, Moldova’s time. “As I already said yesterday evening, the elections were held in a free manner without major incidents. The task of the electoral bodies - from the electoral commissions of polling places up to the Central Election Commission – is to systematize the identified irregularities, to analyze them and to take all the necessary measures to prevent such violations in the future,” stated Dorin Cimil.
A number of 1,364,597 electors voted in the elections. The highest voter turnout in Moldova, of 47.4%, was in Ocnița district, while the lowest one in Basarabeasca district – of 35.6%. As many as 292,274 voters cast their ballots in the municipality of Chisinau. At the 42 polling stations established for Transnistrian voters, 14,709 persons marked their ballots.
At the out-of-country polling stations, 149,840 electors voted, with 46,442 of these in Italy. The Moldovans also voted actively in the UK, France, Germany, Romania, etc. The number of ballots delivered to those stations was enough, as Dorin Cimil noted.
With 99.9% of the ballots counted, the results are as follows: the PAS candidate Maia Sandu gained 36.12% of the vote, while independent candidate Igor Dodon, who is supported by the Party of Socialists, won 32.64% of the vote.
