CEC of Transnistria announces results of polls

The present separatist leader in Tiraspol has garnered 82.4% of the votes in the unrecognized presidential elections in Transnistria. Under these conditions, the second round of the polls will not be held. According to Central Election Committee (CEC) of Transnistria, Smirnov is followed by the communist representative in the region – Nadejda Bondarenko, who was voted by about 8% of the total number of the voters. Andrei Safonov, the editor of “Novaia Gazeta” daily, gathered almost 4% of the votes, while the businessman from Bender, a deputy in the so-called supreme soviet Piotr Tomaili – 2%. 1.6% of the participants in the vote have voted against all the candidates. In total, 257.767 persons that represent over 66% of the total number of electors have participated in the polls. Over 4,500 bulletins have been annulled. The unrecognized election authority in the region will announce the final results of the polls on December 5.
