CEC launches sections on presidential election and referendum

The Central Election Commission has launched two new sections on its website, centering on the presidential election and the national constitutional referendum of October 20, IPN reports.

On the CEC’s website, one can see the calendar program for the two electoral exercises, as well as the Commission’s decisions related to the election, information about prior registration, which is an optional procedure by which the citizens of the Republic of Moldova with the right to vote announce their intention to vote in a particular locality abroad. The list of political parties that can contend in the presidential election and the national constitutional referendum can also be accessed there.

The CEC is to fill in the sections with reports at the beginning of the electoral campaign, with information on the conditions for offering advertising space and information on the authorization of opinion polls and exit polls. The two sections will also contain information on the participants in the referendum and on the designation and registration of candidates for the presidential election. Information about accredited observers, appeals and public interest messages approved by the CEC will also be placed there.

The electoral period for the presidential elections and the national constitutional referendum of October 20 begins on August 1 and will last until the day the election results are confirmed by the competent bodies. Media service providers, broadcasters and distributors of advertising will only be entitled to broadcast public service announcements approved by the CEC.

Earlier, the CEC decided that the documents for the registration of electoral blocs for the purpose of designating candidates for the office of President of the Republic of Moldova will be accepted between July 22 and August 25. The documents for the registration of electoral blocs for the national constitutional referendum can be submitted by political parties to the Commission’s headquarters from July 22 to September 14.

The documents for the registration of initiative groups for supporting candidates for the office of President of the Republic of Moldova will be received during August 21-31, while the documents for registration as a participant in the referendum – between August 21 and September 20.
