Political parties shall not create obstacles for journalists in doing their job during the election campaign. In turn, media outlets shall not publish untrue or slanderous materials targeting electoral competitors or other journalists. These are some of the provisions contained by the Code of Coduct for the general local elections on June 5, which is being proposed by the Central Election Comission (CEC) to be signed by stakeholders, Info-Prim Neo reports. The election authority is inviting political parties and media organizations to sign this Code in order avoid cases of improper behaviors that could affect the dignity and reputation of the electoral competitors. By signing the Code, the signatories will commit themselves to observing the electoral legislation, to informing correctly and objectively the voters about the candidates and their political programs, to respecting the right of the voters to participate in the poll based on their own beliefs, and to avoiding actions that can lead to intimidation and obstruction of the free expression of one's vote. The document will be open for signing starting on April 11 and until the formal start of the election campaign.
