The Central Election Commission (CEC) interrupted the examination of the subject concerning the reports on the incomes and costs of election contenders in the campaign prior to the presidential elections of July 11, according to the situation by July 9, until 2pm on July 18. It identified a donation that exceeds the limit in the case of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR). This fact is to be verified following the presentation of relevant documents by the AUR representative, IPN reports.

According to CEC president Dorin Cimil, analyzing the reports the Commission ascertained that BeCS, PACE, the Civic Congress, the Shor Party, PDM, PDCM, NOI Party, the Party of Change, the Electoral Bloc “Renato Usatîi”, PAS, PPPDA, PUN, the Party “Democracy at Home” obtained donations from private individuals who have earnings in the country and abroad and these didn’t pass the ceiling in accordance with the Election Code, except for a donor who offered 22,800 lei to AUR.

The AUR representative said this is a technical mistake. The donation was made by two persons with the same name, father and son. He presented confirming documents that are to be examined.

The analysis of the financial reports also showed that 70 private individuals from the country who donated money didn’t declare any income to the State Tax Service or declared a lower income than the donated sum in 2018-2020. The CEC does not have the necessary powers to investigate all the aspects of the origin of the money and therefore will notify the State Tax Service.

The Shor Party, BeCS, PACE, the Civic Congress, PPPDA and the Party of Change declared donations from pensions and the National House of Social Insurance confirmed these. Dorin Cimil reminded that under the Election Code, only financial resources coming from salary, entrepreneurial, scientific and creation activity performed by citizens of the Republic of Moldova in the country or abroad can be used to finance political parties.

The Ecologist Green Party, Moldova’s Patriots Party and the New Historical Option Party didn’t open an Electoral Fund account and didn’t spend money in the election campaign.
