The Central Election Commission (CEC) started to review the normative framework on elections. A working group will be constituted under CEC to analyze the Electoral Code and the related legislation, IPN reports.

During two months, the members and functionaries of the commission aim to identify the shortcoming existing in the electoral legislation and to examine the Constitutional Court’s opinions and the challenges filed by electoral subjects in elections and also the conclusions and recommendations included in the reports of the election observations missions that oversaw the last national elections.

At the second stage, after a “future law” is drafted, CEC will send the designed document to expert NGOs and specialists. After the comments of these are processed, the working group will formulate a final bill that will be made public at the start of next February.

Later, CEC will launch broad consultations involving electoral experts, political parties, civil society, development partners and other authorities involved in the organization of elections. These will strengthen central electoral authorities’ efforts to improve the Electoral Code and the related legislation.
