The Central Election Commission (CEC) urges the electoral contenders to carry out a civilized campaign, based on the principles of democracy, in conditions of political pluralism and by observing the freedom of expression and though, the right to secret ballot and the freedom of the media, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a statement made public by the CEC, the elections in a democratic society favor competition of ideas and ideological currents. The people decide by vote who should win and who should lose. The election runners must respect and comply with the people’s will. “The atmosphere that prevails in society, the relations between the contenders and between the candidates and the voters represent an indicator of political honesty and democracy. That’s why we call upon the political forces to conduct the election campaign in an atmosphere of mutual respect and confidence and respect for the voters,” the Commission says in its statement. The CEC urges all the election runners to observe the law during the last week of the election campaign as well. It commits itself to working in an open, correct and impartial manner, in strict compliance with the law. The second round of mayoral elections will take place in Moldova on June 19. In a number of settlements, the elections will be rerun.
