The Central Election Commission (CEC) banned anti-protests at electoral meetings following a request made by the Democratic Party (PDM), IPN reports, quoting a communiqué of the party.

“The PDM informed the state institutions about the acts of hooliganism committed by instigators of Sergiu Mocanu’s grouping who repeatedly hampered the people during the meetings staged by the Democratic Party. The Central Election Commission adopted a decision by which it penalized the election runner People’s Movement “Antimafie” and banned it from taking new such aggressive actions. We will file such applications every time we see hostile behavior and when the security of meetings will be in danger, the public opinion will be manipulated and steps will be taken to incite hatred. On every occasion, we will request the competent bodies to impose drastic legal penalties so as to stop such shameful behavior and to guarantee the people’s right to meet and the voters’ freedom to inform themselves,” reads the communiqué.

The PDM says that by such requests to the competent bodies, it gives a clear signal that it is not and will never be intimidated by the physical and verbal aggressiveness of some of the election runners. “The party and its members didn’t violate and will not violate the electoral legislation. Instead, we will fight against those who harm the PDM’s image and hinder the activities we organize in concert with the people by all the legal instruments available. Those who will continue the provocations must know that criminal punishment for them will follow the CEC’s decision. We warn the police that now they have a clearer legal framework for fulfilling their task of maintaining public order,” it is said in the communiqué.

“Namely because the PDM is a party of stability and of projects for the future, are we subject to attacks on the part of radical and extremist forces that intend not to build something in this country, but only to soil and destroy. The PDM will continue to campaign on a positive note and to speak about what the people are really interested in, first of all about the measures that should be taken to create well-paid jobs and to support the Moldovan families.”
