Citizens with voting rights who turned 18, including on election day, and have no restrictions on exercising the right to choose and to be elected, can run for the position of local councilors in the following local elections. However, in order to run for the mayor's office, citizens need to be 25 years of age. The Central Election Commission approved at today's meeting the application and registration conditions for candidates for the functions of mayor and councilor.

A person can simultaneously apply for the position of local councilor and mayor, yet cannot apply for these functions in several same level electoral districts. According to the approved regulations, the nomination and registration of candidates for local election will begin after the electoral districts and constituency councils are established.

In order to run independently, a person will have to submit to the electoral body subscription lists of supporter signatures. For the local councilor function - 2% of the number of voters in the respective constituency, not less than 50 persons, is needed. For the mayor position - 5% of the number of voters in the electoral district, no less than 150 people and no more than ten thousand people, is needed.

Candidates may file their registration for the position of mayor and / or local council advisor to the electoral body, at the latest 30 days before the election. Within seven days, the files will be examined by CEC, then a ruling regarding registration or refusal will be issued.

On October 20, 898 mayors and 11580 local councilors (1108 - district and municipal councilor and 10472 - village and city councilors) will be elected.
