CEC announces final preliminary results of June 3 polls

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has made public on Thursday, June 7, the final preliminary results of the June 3 local general elections. These results show that the communist candidates for mayor polled 29.92 percent of votes nationwide, compared with 40% received in 2003. The candidates for mayor of the Moldova Noastra Alliance Party got 15.75% of the valid votes, which is comparable to the results obtained by the “Moldova Noastra Social-Liberal Alliance” Electoral Bloc in the previous elections. The party that took the third place based on the final preliminary results is the Democrat Party – 6.88% (4.9% in 2003). The candidates of other parties polled less than 5% of votes nationwide - the Social Democracy Party (4.37%), the Social-Democrat Party of Moldova (3.37%), the Social-Liberal Party (3.11%), the Republican People’s Party (3.26%), the Electoral Bloc “Patria-Rodina-Ravnopravie” (1.93%), the Centrist Union of Moldova (1.54%), the Liberal Party (1.43%), etc. Independent candidates received a total of 14.77%. In the polls for town/village councillors the candidates of the ruling party collected 33.45%, against 45% in 2003, AMN – 17.46%, compared with 20.5%, PD – 10.8%, and 8,6% respectively, PPCD – 8.1%, against 6,3% in 2003. Other political parties received less than 5 % and are as follows: PDS - 4.61%, PSD - 3.4%, PPR – 3.1%, BEPRR - 1.84%, PL – 1.51%, UCM – 1.48%. Independent candidates collected 8.38%. In the polls for municipal/district councillors, the PCRM candidates polled 34.32%, against 48% in 2003; AMN – 16.77%, compared with 20% ASLMN collected in 2003; PD – 9.73% (7.7%); PPCD – 8.52% (8.9%). Under the Electoral Code, the legality of elections in each constituency shall be either confirmed or not by the district courts within 10 days after receiving the district electoral councils' reports. Within 24 hours after adoption, CEC and the district election councils shall publish the final results.
