The national football team of Moldova began the UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying competition with a 0-2 defeat to Montenegro. However, the president of the Moldovan Football Federation Pavel Cebanu remains optimistic. He said Moldova must beat Austria and struggle for a place in the Euro 2016 final, IPN reports.
If Moldova qualifies for the European championship that will take place in France, the UEFA will award €8 million to the team. “If the national team qualifies for the final, the players will get half of the almost €8 million that the Moldovan Football Federation will receive from the UEFA. I informed the footballers about this. The money will be distributed by the technical staff, depending on the efforts made in the qualifying rounds during two years,” Pavel Cebanu told the journalists.
The encounter between Moldova and Austria will take place at the Zimbru stadium on October 9, starting at 9:45pm. On October 12, Moldova meets Russia in Moscow. This year, the team trained by Alexandru Curteian will play one more match of the Euro 2016 qualifying rounds. On November 15, Moldova plays Lichtenstein at home.
