A Ceadir-Lunga police officer has been arrested for 72 hours after accepting illegal fees and favors from a vendor, the National Anticorruption Center reported.

The officer would periodically accept money, foodstuffs, liquors, cigarettes and prepaid phone cards to in exchange for closing his eyes on some small violations committed by the vendor. Also, the officer promised protection from trade-related problems to the vendor.

The officer now faces imprisonment terms ranging from 5 to 10 years and a fine of up to 8,000 conventional units, with a ban from occupying certain posts.
