The Constitutional Court is examining the Central Election Commission’s requests to validate the result of the national constitutional referendum of October 20. Outside, representatives of the opposition are protesting, invoking irregularities and even the falsification of the plebiscite results, IPN reports.
The protest announced by the Party of Communists began about half an hour before the CC’s meeting. The Communist leader Vladimir Voronin told the crowd that the disastrous situation witnessed now in the country can no longer be tolerated.
Subsequently, Vladimir Voronin, together with MP Diana Caraman, went to the meeting hall of the Court. Caraman demanded that the PCRM, as a participant in the referendum, should be accepted as a party to the case.
The CC judges examined this approach behind closed doors. After deliberations, it was decided not to accept the PCRM as a party. However, the constitutional judges agreed to examine, in the context of the CEC’s request, the PCRM's request for a vote recount.
The meeting continued with the presentation by the chairwoman of the Central Election Commission Angelica Caraman of the summary of the report on the results of the national constitutional referendum.
In the meantime, the MPs affiliated with the fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor showed up at the Court. They came to file an application and request not to validate the referendum. According to them, arguments were presented to confirm that multiple procedural violations were committed in the organization of the referendum.
"We hope that, however, the Court, after this notification was registered today, will take a break, will invite us as parties to this process of validating the referendum, where we will have the opportunity to plead before the Court and argue our position," said Vasile Bolea.
