The Constitutional Court of Moldova (CC) approved the legislative initiatives to amend the supreme law’s provisions concerning the appointment of judges and the Prosecutor’s Office, IPN reports.
The bill regarding the judicial system provides that a judge is named to post by the Head of State, at the suggestion of the Supreme Council of Magistracy, but the Head of State will be able to reject the candidate proposed by the Council only once. Also, the authorities will be obliged to consult the Council before taking a decision as regards the financial resources that will be allocated to the judiciary.
The bill to amend the Constitution’s article concerning the Prosecutor’s Office stipulates that the prosecutor general will be named for a seven-year term by the Head of State, at the suggestion of the Supreme Council of Prosecutors. This can be dismissed by the President, also at the suggestion of the Council.
The bills on the judicial system and the Prosecutor’s Office, which were put forward by the Cabinet, can be submitted to Parliament for examination and can be adopted after at least six months of the presentation of the CC’s appraisals.
