Nineteen persons, 11 of whom minors, benefited from free legal assistance as part of the project “Say No to Family Violence and Trafficking in Human Beings”. The given persons were subjected to sexual abuse and corporal punishment, the head of the Causeni Law Center Ion Oboroceanu told a news conference on Thursday, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
“By this project, we wanted to inform the people from the districts neighboring Causeni about the risks of family violence, human trafficking and illegal migration, and to give free advice to the victims,” Ion Oboroceanu said.
He also said that the minors continue to be abused and marginalized even by their parents and their rights are violated. The persons to blame should be held accountable for such infringements.
“The domestic violence is dangerous especially in rural areas, where the victims are isolated, do not have access to information and legal assistance,” said Kathy Ladun, acting director of the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA/ROLI), which supported financially the project.
A summer school for volunteers was held as part of the project. The participants increased their knowledge about family violence and trafficking in persons. Informative seminars were held for young people, officials of the local public administration, local councilors, librarians, social workers. There was issued the second edition of the album “Human Trafficking as Seen by Children”.
The project has been implemented between March 2008 and September 2009.
