Specialists of the National Food Safety Agency discovered two cases of rabies, in a dog from Cimișlia district and in a cat from the municipality of Chisinau. The bodies of the animals were incinerated and the remains were buried, IPN reports.
Rabies virus is transmitted from animal to animal or from animals to humans directly by bites or by scratches caused by rabid animals. In 2020, there were reported 91 cases of rabies in animals. In 2019, a boy aged 11 from the municipality of Chisinau was diagnosed with rabies after he was scratched by an unknown dog. The boy died in the hospital.
The National Food Safety Agency recommends taking measures to prevent foxes from entering the yards of houses and their contact with domestic animals and to obey simple, but effective rules when animals cause traumas, such as abundantly washing the wound with running water and soap and treating the wound with iodine.
