Section Four of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), which is examining the three cases on the Romanian-language schools working in Transnistria, decided to to allow the Grand Chamber to deal with them. The plaintiffs include 170 parents, children and teachers of Romanian-language schools based in Transnistria, Info-Prim Neo has learned from Promo-Lex Association. According to Promo-Lex, the decision comes after the Government of Russia asked organizing new public hearings in the given case. Russia considers the problems of jurisdiction and responsibility for violating the human rights in the Transnistrian region are still open and the Court's jurisdiction in this respect is sufficiently varied. Earlier, on June 15, the ECHR anonymously adopted the decision to examine the given cases, while on September 20 representatives of the plaintiffs presented new evidence in support of their claims. “The pecuniary and non-pecuniary damages were calculated for every plaintiff apart, on the basis of the psychological assessment reports prepared by the Rehabilitation Center “Memoria”,” said jurist Alexandru Postica. Every application refers to a school that was banned from teaching in Romanian on the basis of Latin script by the unrecognized Transnistrian authorities.
