According to the epidemiological data of the last years, February-March is the period during which the highest number of cases of seasonal flu are usually recorded. This year, the specialists estimate that both the cases of seasonal influenza and of COVID-19 will rise the next few months, IPN reports.
In the Cabinet meeting, secretary of state at the Ministry of Health Tatiana Zatyk said that compared with the previous period the number of serious forms of COVID-19 in the recent past rose by 8%, while of mild forms increased from 12% to 17%.
The lower number of cases of COVID-19 in the recent period does not mean the situation improved. Specialists say such a development is due to the fact that fewer people went to see a doctor during the winter holidays. The students’ vacation and the imposed restrictions also had an effect. Moldova ranks 26th in the European region by the number of infections and the number of new cases of infections in the country remains high.
There are now 140,000 test kits for COVID-19 available and a tender contest to purchase another 300,000 rapid tests is to be announced. Another 300,000 test kits will be bought by the classical method.
Moldova by January 19 has got 153,500 cases of infection with the novel coronavirus, with the death toll standing at 3,282. As many as 233 of the 2,233 infected persons who are now hospitalized are in a very serious state.
