The number of cases of rabies recorded in the first half of this year is three times higher than in the corresponding period last year. According to the National Public Health Agency, the number of animals diagnosed with rabies rose from 12 to 35, while the number of affected administer units – from 7 to 20, IPN reports.
Thirteen of the cases involved dogs, nine cases – cows, seven cases – cats, five cases – foxes and one case involved a goat. These were reported in the districts of Causeni, Orhei, Floresti, Leova, Soroca, Telenesti and Slobozia.
Specialists of the Agency said the disease more often affects domestic animals and this represents a real danger to the health of the owners, especially children.
Rabies is a viral disease that causes inflammation of the brain in humans and other mammals. Early symptoms can include fever and tingling at the site of exposure. These symptoms are followed by one or more of the following symptoms: violent movements, uncontrolled excitement, fear of water, an inability to move parts of the body and others. The person who came into contact with a rabid animal, was hurt or bitten by this should immediately see a doctor to be vaccinated.
