Anticorruption prosecutors and officers of the National Anticorruption Center completed the investigation into the case in which functionaries of the Chisinau City Hall are investigated for acts of corruption, traffic of influence, misuse of power and falsification of public documents. The case was sent to court on September 9 and seven persons are to stand trial, including the deputy mayor of Chisinau Vlad Cotet and deputy head of the Architecture and Urbanism Division Radu Blaj, IPN reports.
The functionaries are suspected of facilitating the provision of particular services for money, by reaching preliminary agreements with intermediaries, such as hastening the issuing of documents for changing the status of land and for privatizing nonresidential areas. The sum of €12,000 is the largest one transmitted as bribe by the beneficiaries of building projects.
The servants face up to 15 years in jail and ban on holding particular posts as well as fines.
The same persons are also investigated for unjust enrichment in a separate case, which hasn’t been yet sent to court.
Vlad Cotet is now under arrest. Radu Blaj was released on bail, while the other persons are investigated outside jail.
