The criminal case started by the National Anticorruption Center over acts of corruption committed by a number of functionaries of the State Main Tax Inspectorate, including the Inspectorate’s head Nicolae Vicol, was sent to prosecutors on May 14, IPN has learned from the Center.

In a communiqué, the Center says that 24 volumes containing 14 related criminal cases were delivered to the prosecutors. The Center’s conclusions are based on over 200 proofs. Furthermore, the prosecutors were furnished with 52 disks with wiretaps and 12 packs of material evidence, including the flash drive found in Nicolae Vicol’s office, which contains recordings of phone conversations of his inferiors.

The report on the completion of the investigation has 87 pages with the description and analysis of the evidence. The case involves 10 persons, including a businessman, a former employee and a current employee of the National Anticorruption Center, the Inspectorate’s deputy head, two tax inspectors, the Government’s deputy secretary general, and two civilians.

Nicolae Vicol was arrested on February 15. He is accused of passive corruption, abuse of power and illegal wiretapping.
