A case of rabies in a domestic dog was reported in Dumuljeni village of Floresti district. The head of the Floresti Food Safety Division Alexandru Prodan has told IPN that the owner informed the authorities that the animal, who was held in a cage, was aggressive and salivated intensely.
The samples taken and examined by the National Clinical Veterinary Center conformed the presence of the virus. The animal was burned and buried and the place where he was held and the yard were disinfected. The persons who came into contact with the animal are under medical supervision.
According to Alexandru Prodan, the family does not have fowl and the rabies was probably caught from a wild animal that visited the dog.
Rabies is a viral disease that causes inflammation of the brain in humans and other mammals. Early symptoms can include fever and tingling at the site of exposure. These symptoms are followed by one or more of the following symptoms: violent movements, uncontrolled excitement, fear of water, an inability to move parts of the body and others.
The most recent case of rabies was reported earlier this month. An inhabitant of Solonceni village of Rezina district was bitten by a rabid cat. Inspectors of the district Food Safety Division instituted quarantine in the village for a period of two months. The minor was immediately administer an anti-rabies vaccine and received specific treatment.
