The criminal case started against the former consul general of Moldova in Bologna was sent to court. This is accused of influence peddling and faces a fine of 250,000 lei or up to five years in jail, IPN has learned from the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.
According to prosecutors, last October, when the ex-consult worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, he said he has influence over public figures of the Migration and Asylum Bureau and asked for €1,500 from a citizen of Syria for hastening the obtaining of entry and stay documents for Moldova for three citizens of Iraq. In several days, while in his office, the ex-consult received the first tranche of €500 and copies of the passports of the three citizens of Iraq.
The functionary was arrested last yearend and is in remand detention. At the request of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, he was suspended from the post held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
Nicolae Nuca was named consul of Moldova in Bologna in 2009. He was recalled in 2013 and continued work as section head at the General Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
